One-handed keyboard now available for touchscreens – Cell Phones. This is cool. I am going to see if this will speed me up. It is hard changing from two hands, but its more habit than anything I think.

The Way to a Womans Heart is Through Electronics? | Industry study recommends consumer electronics as Valentines Day presents for women | LiveScience – StumbleUpon. I have seen this in my life. The women in my life seem to prefer iPhones, iPads and other devices like that. It makes it pretty easy to prove keeping up when you can buy one for your spouse as well doesn’t it? “But honey, we both need Siri!”

List of iPod models – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of iPod models – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. This is a nice breakdown of the past iPod models. I recently had to help a friend with bring his iPod back to life. It turns out that a third-party company fixed the issue, and I was able to copy the music. He was thrilled.

ipod: ipod only plays out of one ear – StumbleUpon. Nice solution suggested in this thread. Also one of the posters said that he got some aluminum stuck in the line-in port. So I suggested 5 ways to remove the aluminum foil:

  1. Use a toothpick with some gum stuck on the end
  2. Bend a paperclip with a pair of needle nose pliers like a Leatherman
  3. Use the smallest screwdriver in a glasses repair kit
  4. Use two-sided tape and form it into a column by bending it on itself horizontally.
  5. Whittle a wooden matchstick into a fishing hook shape.

How do you manage a hot laptop?

Since I’ve had a laptop a few years I’ve tried a variety of methods to keep cool. Here is what I have learned. I didn’t like anything that had batteries or was plastic because it is a pain to recharge batteries.

  1. Using a chopping block works pretty well. You can buy them fairly cheaply in a variety of places. The cheaper ones under $10 tend to crack from the extreme heat. I bought a bamboo one at BBB for about $15 that never cracked.
  2. No amount of blanket or fabric insulates from the heat. I thought that the air between the spaces of fabric would insulate but it doesn’t work.
  3. I tried glass and other materials like stone but they did not work well. The glass was a pyrex container and it got very hot all over. You couldn’t sit with that on your legs. Stone conducted heat equally well and was uncomfortable to work with.
  4. I tried a mobile desk sort of like a TV dinner tray and that works pretty well. I can sit in various chairs and work from it. It is my second favorite way to work. I got it used so it looks like something you might get from Ikea.
  5. What I am using now is a large chopping block. It is like a shelf and sits between the cushions of my chair. It doesn’t sit on my lap at all, and although large has been the most comfortable for my arms and hands to rest on the computer.
