Blaskan 2.4 and tags don’t work for me

No Problem! (TV series)

Hello,

If you are regular reader you might notice that the theme is different today. The reason for this has to do with an update to Blaskan to 2.4. After applying the update, the tags feature doesn’t seem to work. I am temporarily using a theme called Thematic to allow me to post until this is fixed.

Blaskan is a great theme, and this is the first real problem that I have had with it. I even disabled Zemanta in case that was the issue. It was not. So a different theme allows me to use the tags feature normally. This is crucial for cross indexing information and kind of fun to surf in its own right.

Want to publish your blog to a book for free?

Forbes 1

Hyperink Launches Blog to Book: Your Blog Published in a Month – Forbes – StumbleUpon. Not only that, but you get paid half of the revenues. This seems like a great way to monetize the effort that someone puts into a blog. I signed up for it. I do have some popular pages, and I’m thinking that Stories from my past series might be worth reading in a book form.

New policy for subscribers

HANOVER, GERMANY - MARCH 06: Brazilian Presid...

Hello everyone! I have instituted a new policy for subscribers to this website. I have been overrun by spammers who would register an account, and then do nothing with it. They wouldn’t post a comment, do a track-back, or do anything to show they were interested in interacting with the site. I then started to get posts with spam content from those registered accounts, which I manually deleted at first.

However times have changed. I am tired of deleting junk, so now if someone doesn’t comment on a post, do a track-back or any activity to interact with the site your account will be deleted after 7 days. Comment spam is a growing problem for blogs, and since I don’t have advertising this is costing me time/money that I won’t waste on garbage. I am using a great plugin called “User spam remover” which is working great. It automates deleting dead accounts.

Why have subscribers at all when people can subscribe to the RSS feed? Not everyone likes RSS and for some people its easier to get email notifications. Also by having subscribers I can reduce the amount of comment spam that I have to filter. Blogs take effort to maintain.

New Look at website

golden planeYou may not have noticed, but in the past few weeks I have been trying out some different WordPress themes. I have found one that is free and fantastic. It is my favorite theme yet and I wanted to share it with other people. It is called Suffusion and has several features that normally you have to pay for. I actually paid for a theme two weeks ago, and it cost $25. It was ok, but I didn’t like it. It was the first theme I ever paid for, and I probably won’t pay for another theme again. It takes time, but you can find great free themes.

What I wanted to share is that I looked at my webpages that had lists of the top 50 themes of 2011 or something like that, and while they looked nice, they worked very poorly. Lists on the Internet are not valuable to me because they take a tremendous amount of time to fit the features to your needs. What I think would be far more helpful on webpages is a matrix that shows features and products. It always amazes me that the description of things on the Internet is so vague when there is no cost to go into great detail about what it can do.

dooid – create your personal landing page. This is an interesting alternative to WordPress to create an “easy, instant & free” website. I have seen this occasionally but didn’t realize how they were made. I could see this being popular with creative types.
