OS X: Solving “The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items” problem (via The Wheat Field)

Nice work! I have never had to use this command, but it is great to know.

OS X: Solving "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items" problem I was trying to backup some of my files in OS X onto an external hard disk and ran into the following error dialog box: “The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items” So I thought it was a permission issue of a file/folder that I did not have permission to read. So I went to file information (File > Get Info) of the folder and under “Sharing & Permissions”, I made sure that I had rea … Read More

Releaselog RLSLOG.net » PS 3 Finally probably Hacked to run “backup” games!.  So when companies try to stamp out illegal use like this I wonder how effective they think they will be?  Wouldn’t it be better to offer some sort of reward program with free things for people who agree to not download illegal games?  Or would that make them “lose” possible sales?

Lexars 128GB Echo SE USB thumb drive continuously backs up your netbook, mobile life — Engadget.  It claims that it backs up files in use without any configuration.  That is great but what about the rest of the files that are not in use?  At $349 this doesn’t seem better than other available options.

Very Slow iPad Backup/Sync

Apple – Support – Discussions – Very Slow iPad Backup/Sync ….  Several suggestions.

  1. Making sure you have the cable that came with the device
  2. Only syncing part of content instead of entire content.
  3. Removing the Zino software App.
  4. Disable Norton Internet Security during the sync process.
  5. Bookworms suggestions:
  • 1. Use only the new iPad USB cable, not older iPhone cable.
    2. Plug directly into my PC (USB 2.0)
    3. Disable Anti-Virus (Norton in my case)
    4. Make sure your bandwidth is free (so that iTunes) can connect to Apple.
    5. Install latest iTunes
    6. Perform clean install of OS 3.2 (restore to Factory settings).
    7. Delete GoodReader and Zinio reader.Indeed, delete any other apps holding any data of any significance.

Windows 7 HDD Mirror Issue, SyncQueue TaskGroup (via Software. Efficiency. Scalability.)

So has anyone else experienced the Windows RAID breaking and requiring a lengthy rebuild? Seems like it is more trouble than it is worth on a workstation.

I run Windows 7 on my workstation with SSD + RAID1 setup. The SSD contains Windows, Visual Studio, and some other tools that I use. The mirrored HDDs contain all data files and a backup copy of the SSD. This setup has been working fairly well for me because it gives an outstanding performance of the SSD drive (Windows 7 boots up in under 8 sec) and a stability of RAID1 which prevents any significant data loss. The only disappointing issue so far … Read More

I wish that I could have been that lucky with LaCie products.  I worked at a place once in which every LaCie product they bought died within a year of purchase.  They bought large external firewire connected hard drives.  It used to be that LaCie was a great brand.

Error code 0×80020042 when trying to …

    The solution for rawsaxy:

Well, after making the mistake of adding permissions to internal files on the main hard drive and system folder, I ended up with the Gray Screen and Restart Loop problem. I was able to backup the important files before doing an Erase & Install. Everything is working better than before now. I left the Mac OS at 10.5.2, and guess what? I was able to burn a DVD in iDVD ’08 now! Thank you Lord!

via Apple – Support – Discussions – Error code 0×80020042 when trying to ….

Another two solutions are from this thread.

    1.  Try another kind of media

    2.  Use a Computer CD/DVD cleaning pad.

Both of this solutions fixed the problem for two posters.

Time Machine says “Link of previous volume failed” after enabling FileVault

Apple – Support – Discussions – Time Machine says.  Interesting.  Pondini has the solution below called “Full Reset” of Time Machine.”

    1. In Time Machine Preferences, click the Options button.  Note anything in the exclusions box, and the settings of other option(s) on that panel.  Click Cancel, then turn Time Machine OFF, and quitSystem Preferences.

    2. Eject, disconnect, and power-off the drive for a few moments, then reconnect it.

    3. Delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist (in your top-level Library folder,     not your home folder).  This will not delete anything in your backups.  If you have a problem finding the file, see item #A7.

    4. Go back to Time Machine Preferences, re-select the drive, re-enter any exclusions and other options.

    5. A 120-second countdown to a backup should appear.  If you close the window, it should begin immediately.”

    MMS missing after installing 4.0

Apple – Support – Discussions – MMS missing after installing 4.0 ….  The solution for many of the posters on this thread was to restore the phone.  If you are feeling adventerous you might try this method from CHAARUZU.

Solution, had exact same issue! You will have to restore sir lol.

    1. Restore ( it should ask to back up, so yes back up)
    2. Phone will go through process of restoring!
    3. Phone returns and says activated ( but you have the option the restore from
backup and set up as new phone)
    4. Select “set up as a new phone”
    5. Go through that process.(5 seconds)
    6. i believe it will begin syncing every app to phone.
    7. Cancel sync, go to messege app, MMS icon should be back. Safari should be
working (test on 3G network Not WiFi)
    8. Finally check to see if your contacts are back( mine were so i assume yours
will be) No need to back up phone if your contacts are on.
    9. Sync all that you desire to be syncd!
    10. Jump for Joy! if you made it to 10!!!! lol hope it works!!!”

Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.

Time Machine: About.  Turns out that the backup may not be as reliable as you had assumed.  You can find the details in the Apple article linked above or do this.

    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. From the View menu, choose Time Machine.
    3. Move the slider bar to “Off” to disable Time Machine backups.
    4. Open Disk Utility located in /Applications/Utilities.
    5. Open a Finder window and locate your Time Capsule in the “Shared” section of the sidebar.
    6. Click on the Time Capsule. Enter your password if necessary.
    7. Locate your Time Machine backup disk image (the disk image will contain the name of your computer in the filename).
    8. Drag the disk image to the Disk Utility sidebar.
    9. Select the disk image, then click Verify.
    10. If Disk Utility reports “Error: File system verify or repair failed,” you need to start a new backup. Note: Do not repair the disk image with Disk Utility.

    Changes to Backup…More Efficient? …

Changes to Backup…More Efficient?  The backup size was changed from 90mb to 1 GB.  So you may notice few of them.

    via Apple – Support – Discussions – Changes to Backup…More Efficient? ….

Is Time Machine saying your backup is impossibly huge?

Then it could be a damanged or confused volume that you are trying to backup.  Pondini suggestion solved the issue for the poster. “Something is probably corrupted on one of the volumes being backed-up, showing an enormous size. Tryverifying your boot volume, and repairing any others, per #A5 in Time Machine – Troubleshooting (or use the link in User Tips at the top of this forum).

If that doesn’t help, the preferences file may be corrupted. Try a “full reset” per #A4 in the same article.”
