Women and the Law – Magazine – The Atlantic. This is interesting to read. I didn’t realize all of the disadvantages that women have. Glad I’m a guy.

Anyone wanted to be like Alex Keaton?

Michael J. FoxI am watching Netflix and the Family Ties episode “Speed Test”. In this episode Alex was trying to be perfect and used drugs to get good grades and score well on his tests. Alex did many stupid things on the show, but I seemed to ignore them as a kid.

Now watching the show Alex seems more like a jerk than a role model. He was intelligent, could be funny, and seemed to do well with women. I know he was written to be the foil of the good characters in his family, but he seemed to take a perverse pleasure in being the bad guy.

Now I’d rather be more like myself. Role models seem kind of silly.

Against the Smartphone Thinness Fetish – Robert Wright – Technology – The Atlantic

#43 - audrey hepburnAgainst the Smartphone Thinness Fetish – Robert Wright – Technology – The Atlantic. I guess that functionality does win over form after all. I don’t see this any different from how society tells us we should view women. If our women are thin, why not our technology? Is more gained or lost in wanting to be thin? In many ways being thin can work against women such as heavier women surviving surgeries better. Perhaps we need to not apply such broad brushstrokes of want in our lives.
