Troj/JSRedir-DO – Viruses and Spyware – Threat Analyses – Threat Center – Sophos. I just got this virus when I was StumbleUponing sites. Interesting. SU has been the biggest source of malware for me.

Nice writeup by Lex at Macworld. It seems that lately there has been more hacking interest in the Mac. I wonder why?

I have been using Sophos on my Mac and it has worked great. It has found a ton of viruses just surfing the web. Although I have to say that the most viruses I get are from using StumbleUpon. I wonder why they don’t scan the websites they catalog for viruses and then delist them?

Trend Micro Internet Security review

Amazon.com: Trend Micro Internet Security [OLD VERSION]: Software. This is a review for an older version of trend micro internet security. It shows that most people seem to like the software. I have not used it, but I had a friend ask me if he should buy it. It was cheaper than the competition and he felt it would do the job for him. Could be worth looking into.

This is too bad that people haven’t learned what drumrobot said below. Perhaps after enough time people will learn.

It would really help if people just learned a few basic rules, including:

1. If you get a popup message telling you that your computer is infected, and it is not a program that you recognize, it’s fake.

2. Any program that tells you that your computer is infected and asks you to pay to remove it is fake.

3. If a program tells you that your computer is infected and you haven’t even scanned your computer, guess what*? It’s also fake.

4. You can’t see who viewed your Facebook profile. You won’t be able to watch the OBL raid. You can’t get a free iPad. (In short, “don’t be so gullible.”)

If people just took the time to learn (about five minutes would be sufficient), then the Internet would be a hell of a lot cleaner.

  • I’m not talking about the messages you get from real AV software; I’m referring to the “Your computer has [insert large number] viruses!”

Delay the launch of your OS X apps, utilities and helpers at startup | The Graphic Mac

Delay the launch of your OS X apps, utilities and helpers at startup | The Graphic Mac. Interesting idea. I could see this being useful for someone who had a lot of programs, or for possible server use. I wonder if its faster waiting for them to load serially than in parallel.

OSX/FakeAV-A – Viruses and Spyware – Threat Analyses – Threat Center – Sophos – StumbleUpon. I actually had this virus yesterday. Sophos found it and deleted it as soon as it found it.
