Gmail Badge won’t update: Apple Support Communities

Gmail Badge won’t update: Apple Support Communities. Nice solution by Scott Nash. I wonder if this is a weakness with Lion Mail?

Ok.  With the help of tech support, I managed to fix this problem.  Since I’m clearly NOT a moron who just doesn’t know what I’m doing, I suspect it’s possible others might have the same problem.  The issue was the envelope index file in the library.

~library/mail/v2/mail data/envelope index

If you delete that file it forces a ‘deep rebuild’ that recollects ALL your metadata.  It does not have recall your data from the servers, just the hard drive so it’s pretty quick.  After about four minutes of rebuilding, all my stuff reappeared and the badges were correct.

This is similar, but more extensive than the ‘rebuild’ at the bottom of the mailbox menu.  That didn’t work, but this did.

Mail Send Failed – “Milter rejected…: Apple Support Communities. Interesting. The work arounds seem to be two things:

  1. Turn off SSL
  2. Change from smtp.mac.com on part: 587 to port 25.
  3. Get another email provider

Sending from Mail: Apple Support Communities

Thanks Ernie Stamper.

Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and locate the Outbox.mbox folder. Is there one? If you open it, does the Messages folder within it have any content?

Drag the Outbox.mbox folder from its location to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail, and attempt to send. Then in the Finder again, check to see if Mail has created a new Outbox.mbox folder, and to learn if this new message was in fact sent?

Remove attachments in Mail: Apple Support Communities

Looks like tinoberlin found the solution. Another suggestion is to rebuild the mailbox.

Alright, editing the .emlx file in the directory /Users/Username/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes using TextEdit seems to be the only way to remove attachments from any email. You open the email, delete everything below your message, save it, close Mail, re-launch Mail, and the attachment has gone.

How to DISABLE automatically making a message as read in Mail

"updating the website from work"

SquidlyMan figures out his own issue.

Ok…I take part of what I said back. It was MailActOn by InDev which allowed me to not automatically have a message marked as read.  See http://indev.ca/MailActOn.html for more info.

Apparently the version I had loaded wasn’t compatible with Lion Mail.app.  Since updating it, I know have this feature again.

Apple Mail, underlines and…: Apple Support Communities. This is a strange way to have to use it. Perhaps this will be fixed in Lion. Thanks Tom!

Have you made sure that in the New Message pane you set a font and size different from what is already set in Mail > Preferences?  I think that is required for the outgoing to actually include the rich text codes you want to send.
