Apple – Support – Discussions – My friend Appleworks. ….  In the words of joyss:

Hats off to my old friend Appleworks! After spending an hour trying to copy and paste web pages onto PAGES (bottom of copy page missing, blank pages between copy, tables not copied etc.. , I decided to go back to my simple Appleworks word processing program. NO PROBLEMS. I added copy and pastes of web pages – one following after another – without a hitch. Of course, with tables, I used a Grab program to snatch the table as a .tiff, and just added it, swimmingly, to the text. (When I tried this method in Pages, the table was half the size.) Appleworks may be old, but so am I and it gives me comfort to know that we still can work well together.

Are you having problems setting the Margin in Appleworks?

It is solved by fruhulda. Apparently you just need to “First update to 10.6.2 with the COMBO update. Also find out if your printer drivers have to be updated.”

Appleworks sudden closing

Barry as usual has some great ideas.  “Hi,

The first two steps I would take are to:

1. Delete AppleWorks’s preferences files.
Go to yourname > Library > Preferences.
Locate and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
Locate and open the folder AppleWorks.
From this folder, delete the following files:
AppleWorks 6 Assistant Prefs
AppleWorks 6 Assistants Cache
AppleWorks 6 Preferences
AppleWorks 6 Translators Cache
The file AppleWorks 6 Button Bars may be left in place if you have made changes to the Button Bar AND are having no problems that appear to involve the Button Bar.

Step 1 removes corrupted preferences files and allows AppleWorks to build new, clean versions. The step should follow any crash of AppleWorks.

2. Delete most or all of the Recent Items.
Go to yourname > Documents > AppleWorks User Documents > Starting Points > Recent Items.
Delete all items in this folder that you do not expect to open soon. (The items in this folder are aliases to the actual files. Deleting the aliases does not affect the actual files.)

This step should be take anytime a significant number of items builds up in the Recent Items pane of Starting Points.

Regards,
Barry”

Review: 4 online backup services protect your data

This is always nice to read in detail the experience the different online services offer. Other reviews I’ve read seem to say that Mozy/Carboninite are the best players in the online backup realm.
