Apple – Support – Discussions – How can I transfer mail settings from …. Thanks Kappy!
There are two ways:
1. Connect the two computers via a network. Enable file sharing on the MBA. Open Mail on the iMac and select Import Mailbox from the File menu. Select Apple Mail and then navigate on the MBA to the /Home/Library/Mail/MailBoxes/ folder. Select it and click on the Open button. Check the boxes for all the mailboxes you wish to import then click on the Import button.
2. Copy the entire Mail folder on the MBA to a USB flash drive or an external hard drive. Transfer the drive’s connection to the iMac then copy the Mail folder to the /Home/Library/ folder on the iMac. If necessary move the existing Mail folder to the Trash. You will also need to copy the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the MBA to the same location on the iMac.
In this thread S Das has a solution. “Go to Preferences -> Accounts. Select the IMAP-based account, then click on the “Advanced” tab and disable the account. Save the settings and close Preferences. Then go back and re-enable the account. The IMAP folders will now appear in correct alphabetical order. ” This worked for multiple people. You may need to restart your computer before you go back and re-enable the account.
You might want to rebuild the mailbox. Fixed the issue for this user. j.v. had some great suggetions though if that easy and simple thing doesn’t fix it. “(1) If there is another user account on the computer, and the account is IMAP, add that account (temporarily, of course) to that other user and see if you still get the same screwy number. That would tell you whether it is a user-specific problem or computer-wide. Delete the account from that second user when done, to include any password entries that you saved in that user’s keychain (/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.app). Type of account (POP, IMAP, Exchange) can be determined from Mail Prefs Accounts tab — just highlight the account of interest in the lefthand column and see what is “Account Type” on the Acc’t Info panel.
(2) Back over in your user account, try rebuilding that account’s inbox (Mail.app > menubar > Mailbox > Rebuild). Quit Mail then relaunch Mail.
(3) If (and only if) the account in question is NOT a POP account, delete the account from within Mail Prefs, quit Mail, relaunch Mail, and recreate the account in Mail Prefs.
(4) Write down on a piece of paper all the particulars about all your mail accounts — server names, server ports, SSL or no SSL, authentication types, etc. — and quit Mail. Move that user’s Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop. Navigate to that user’s Library and command-single click on Mail and Mail Downloads. Right-click (or control-click) and compress them (now you have a zip file backup). Restart Mail. It will act like a first-time-ever launch. Recreate the accounts. If all acting normal and nothing appears to be missing or awry, throw away the zip file backup and the plist on the desktop. Otherwise, quit Mail, move the current Mail and Mail Downloads and com.apple.mail.plist in Library/Preferences to the trash. Double-click on the zip to uncompress it then move the zip to the trash. Move the plist on the desktop back into Library/Preferences. Now you’re back to how you were.
(5) Download the 10.6.3 combo update and reinstall it. Always a good idea to run Disk Utility verify disk and repair permissions before you start reapplying the combo update. If the hard disk needs a repair, boot from the installer DVD and run Disk Utility from there so that you can repair the hard disk.
(6) Make an appointment at a Mac Genius Bar.”
You might find RCDefaultApp to be helpful. Normally a program like Thunderbird which I have used will automatically become the default App. Otherwise you can set it in the preferences. I just loaded this application and it is fantastic. If you are managing Macs you will love this app.
Turns out that rebuilding the mailbox fixed it. Ashka suggests “Mail’s Menu bar > Mailbox > select Rebuild..” Worked.
It could be due to this one little file. Excellent work ViruSoul! “HeyThomas,

This SignatureProfiler does it for free. It is donationware so if you like it, give the guy a few bucks. Developers need encouragement that their efforts are appreciated. I have done some programming in the past and it was always rewarding when someone appreciated your hard work.

Its easy to miss but when attaching a picture, there should be a pop-up menu in the lower right-hand corner of the window to select picture size, Small, Medium, Large, or Actual Size. You may be choosing something other than the Actual Size.
So things that are said to be deleted really aren’t? Thats good to know. Click here to find out why.

It is a bug in the software. Thanks Jeremy! “After a bit of research it appears that a bug exists in Mail that causes this issue when Edit > Attachments > Always Insert Attachments at End of Message is enabled in the application. Disabling this feature corrected the problem.” Click here to read his blog.
No solution at present. Apple tech support did several things but didn’t solve the issue so far. Click here for the thread. Poster Ihotka may have a solution “And here too – but I found the cause, and the solution. Apple changed the UI so you have to HOLD the mouse down for a moment after clicking and before dragging. Then it works.”
