Is single-clicking on the Mac double-clicking and opening files?

A Magsafe prise.

I helped a friend yesterday with this problem. She said that her MacBook Pro just started to double-click items when she single clicked on them in the finder. It did this behavior with other mice, and also with the built-in trackpad. So here is what I did to solve the issue.

  1. Trashed specific plist’s in the /users/username/library/preferences folder.
  2. Trashed all plist’s in the users/username/library/preferences folder.
  3. Trashed all files in the users/username/library/caches folder.
  4. Reset the PRAM by holding down the keys 3 times
  5. Reset the SMC
  6. Tried a terminal command that was something like write -g Delaysomething 1000
  7. Reinstalled the OS system with the disk that came with the machine. Updated the software configuration.

Nothing that I did helped. She said the machine also had a kernel panic for the first time. According to the research that I did, Apple genius workers solved this issue by swapping out the machine for others. Has anyone else found a solution to this?
