Update date never changes on Software Update

captfred has the answer. I had that problem once. Drag Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist to the desktop. When things are correct again, you can trash it. via Apple – Support – Discussions – Update date never changes ….
