Would you do this? I wouldn’t. He says “Its only $150 next year”. Oh that’s entirely reasonable then.  I think the hard part for most average people is paying $245 for something that is complex.  People don’t really want to have to spend money and time to figure something out.

Recently I just paid ~21,000yen for a one year MS TechNet Standard subscription for myself, for usage at home. I’m not at all sure if this is common or whether people still think Technet is just for business – or even if many people have even heard of it.     I did point out at the end that if you *don't* want to pay any more after that first fee, you don't have to, and the software still works.

    Can't see much wrong with the deal for tech enthusiasts to be honest – especially as the US price is 200USD depending on local taxes.
