I have experienced the same problems myself. Turning off the trackpad like sebastion suggests is too heavy-handed. You could also try this more physical approach if it is out of warranty.

Kappy suggests “You can reinstall printer families from your OS X installer DVD. You will find them in the Optional Installs folder.” It worked for the user.
It was fixed by following hrcce suggestion “I found the solution to this problem. I deleted my Word preferences file located at: username:library:preferences:com.microsoft.Word.plist Now it works fine”
