Unable to do Software update, access iTunes, use widgets on dash and upload

The user had been configured for a proxy.  Jay has a great solution.  This is great generally whenever you connect to more than one network. “Open System Preferences. Click on the Network icon. You’ll see a drop-down menu for “Location.” Right now it probably says something like “Automatic.” Select “Edit Locations …” and the click the plus sign to create a new location. Cal it something like “Braveheart” and don’t set anything else. Click “Done.” Then make sure the drop-down reads “Braveheart” and if you need to, click “Apply” at the bottom of the Network window.”
