Is Microsoft committing to the Cloud?

Seems hard to believe since they enjoy their profits on fat clients. Or is this some kind of genius ploy that Mr. Balmer has cooked up?  Maybe he wants to misdirect Google, and have them waste their time/money while MS cleverly continues on “The Road Ahead”.
