Ah, a friend of mine had an Apple IIe! He also had a Hayes modem with a telephone coupler. I thought the dude was from the future. That's where I played my first computer game- good old monochrome Castle Wolfenstein.
I never had a coupler but I saw some business that had them. I had the pleasure to use a Apple IIGS that the article talks about and it was amazing. Very responsive and 4096 colors I believe. Really rocked my world then.
